Who is OSSE? Depends on who you ask.
On one end, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) can officially be defined as the State Education Agency for the District of Columbia, managing education policy, administrating federal funding, and regulating accountability measures for public and charter schools throughout the city.
And while that description is both concise and accurate, it also shortchanges the full scope and depth of our impact on education. The truth is, everything we do at the state level has an impact at the student level, and it is our hope that this blog will provide a glimpse of the ways and means OSSE positively effects education in the District, from birth through post-secondary education, college and career-readiness.
