DC Teens Show District Residents How to Quit Smoking

TWD 1OSSE’s Teens Who Don’t…DC Anti-Tobacco Youth Coalition (TWD) sponsored an event in celebration of the Great American Smoke Out on November 21, 2013.  The goal of the youth led and adult supported event was to promote the 1-800-QUIT-NOW telephone number to DC residents and to make them aware of free telephone counseling as well as free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) for a limited time.  OSSE’s TWD member Ryan Washington was the Master of Ceremony for the program. TWD member Julian Jones closed the program by talking about the importance of TWD, data on how tobacco has affected youth in DC, and a call for action against tobacco use.
Other members of TWD distributed tobacco prevention educational materials and incentives at their table, encouraged attendees to sign the smoke-free pledge banner, and engaged participants with tobacco awareness information through the Jeopardy game.
